WORCESTER Nick S. Vasil, 84, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 8 in UMASS Memorial Medical Center.
His wife of 51 years, Lucy (Chilengerian) Vasil died in 2011. He leaves a son and favorite daughter-in-law, James P. and Meghan Vasil of Manchester, NH; a daughter Pamela E. Vasil of Paxton; two grandchildren, Amanda and John Sagarian III; a brother, Henry Vasil of Westwood; a sister, Dianna Kaplanes of Worcester; nephews, Richard and Theodore Bohigian, Michael and Peter Vasil, Thomas Kaplanes and Jeffrey Belisle; two nieces, Stefany and Kasandra Kaplanes; great nieces and nephews; several relatives in Albania and Italy and his dog, Casper. Nick was born in Korce Albania the Son of Peter and Alexandra (Progri) Vasil. He was predeceased by a sister, Barbara Belisle. He served in the US Army stationed in Presidio California and Army Intelligence in Austria.
Nick was an industrial art teacher and was the Girls JV Softball Coach for many years at Bartlett High School in Webster. He was a member of St. Mary’s Assumption Albanian Orthodox Church, its Son St. Mary’s Men’s Clubs and was active in the church’s festival committee. Nick was also a member of the Albanian American National Assoc.
The Funeral will be held Saturday, May 12 from Callahan and Fay Brothers Funeral Home, with a Service at 10 AM in St. Mary's Assumption Albanian Orthodox Church, 535 Salisbury St. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Visiting Hours are Friday, May 11 from 5 to 7 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the WCUW Radion c/o Albanian Hour, 1010 Main St., Worcester, 01610.
