WORCESTER- Ret. WPD, Lt. Daniel F. O'Connor, Sr., 88 of Worcester passed away Wednesday, July 11 in UMASS Memorial Medical Center.
His wife of 54 years, Patricia M. (Friend) O‘Connor died in 2004. He leaves four sons, Daniel F. O’Connor, Jr. of Rutland, Kevin M. O’Connor of Falmouth, Timothy J. O’Connor and William P.O’Connor both of Rutland; two daughters, Patricia Stone of Auburn and Kathleen Allard of Warrington PA; ten grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Four sisters, Anna Drake, June Shabigian, Doris Haigh and Margaret Contois and a brother, William O'Connor predeceased him. He was born in Worcester son of Bartholomew and Margaret (Malone) O'Connor and graduated from Worcester Boys Trade School. He was an Army Air Force Veteran of WWII, serving with the 8th Air Force and was a recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross and Bronze Star wih V for Valor, flying 30 missions over Germany.
Daniel was a Lieutenant with the City of Worcester Police Department for 32 years, retiring in 1976. He was a member of Saint John's Church, the Main South American Legion Post #341, the Worcester Court Club, the Worcester Police Relief Assoc. and the YMCA.
Mr. O'Connor spent much of his retirement with his beloved wife Pat in Clearwater Beach, FL. Daniel was known for his empathy, kindness and generosity to the less fortunate. Most of all he will be remembered for his ability to make his family and friends laugh.
